Nigeria’s Corruption Perception Index (1996-2018)

Corruption Perception Index is an index which ranks countries based on the perceived levels of corruption in their public sector. It is based on a score between 0 and 100 inclusive. The higher the score, the lower the level of corruption and the lower the score, the higher the level of corruption.

According to the Transparency International, Nigeria’s score was 28, recorded in 2016 which means between 1996 and 2018, the year 2016 was when Nigeria recorded the least level of corruption. On the flip side, the country was ranked 54th out of the 54 countries surveyed in 1996 with a score of 6.9. Therefore, corruption was at its peak in Nigeria in 1996.
